Whitney-on-Wye
Whitney and Winforton WI
Whitney and Winforton WI meets on the second Monday of each month – during the summer we meet at Whitney Village Hall at 7.30 pm. In winter months we meet at 2.30 pm at various members’ homes.
At present, we are 20 members. We try to present a varied programme of speakers covering all aspects of life. We have an Open Meeting every October inviting neighbouring WIs including those over the border into Powys.
A very popular event during the winter is our monthly lunch, cooked at a member’s home, so the food is delicious. It’s a wonderful chance to chat with everyone and catch up on their news as sometimes this is not possible at a busy meeting.
In May we welcomed Avril Killick to talk on the Resolution ‘Save our Honey Bees’ and she joined us again on May 20th in her official capacity as our new County Chairman, to celebrate our 80th birthday and help Audrey Broadhurst, our President, to cut the cake.
This was an excellent evening as we invited past members who had moved away from our areas and it was lovely to renew old friendships. Each of our guests was presented with a basket of flowers at the end of the evening.
We are now looking forward to a visit to the Mayor’s Parlour and to our Open evening when Dr Keith Ray will be talking about the Rotherwas Ribbon and other Neolithic finds.
